Re: Age for UPSC Civil Services Exam

As far as government service is concerned, the IAS (Indian Administrative Services) which is marked as a category 'A' government service is a highly special and a respected government service. It is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).


Age

Age Limit as per IAS Eligibility Criteria

One must be aged between 21 years to 32 years of age with both the limits included.

One is applicable for the age limit relaxation as prescribed the GOI.

Maximum Upper Age Limit


General
32 Years

Other Backwards Castes (OBC)
32 Years with an extension of 03 more years = 35 years

Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST)
32 Years with an extension of 05 Years = 37 years

Jammu &Kashmir Domicile
General = 37 years
OBC = 40 Years
SC/ST = 42 Years
PH = 50 years

Physically disabled candidates (Blind, Deaf-Mute, orthopedic)
32 years with a 10 year extension = 42 years

Disabled servicemen disabled from duty
General= 37 years
OBC = 38 Years
SC/ST = 40 Years


Nationality:
1. For the Indian Administrative Service one must be a citizen of India.
2. For other services, one must be either :—
• a citizen of India, or
• a subject of Nepal, or
• a subject of Bhutan, or
• a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
• a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Educational Qualifications:

One who wishes to appear in the IAS must qualify in the following Educational criterions:

1. A degree of graduation in any stream from any recognized University recognized by the University grants Commission as lay down by the Parliament and the Legislature.
2. One who have appeared in the qualifying exam and are waiting for the result are also eligible to apply provided they submit the certificate of qualification along with the mark sheet to the UPSC in the DAF before the Main Exam.
