The Birla Institute of Technology & Science, BITS Pilani is an all-India Institute for higher education. Its primary motive is to train young generation able and eager to create and put into action such ideas, methods, techniques and information.

BITS, Pilani has been accredited by the National Assessment & Accreditation Council (NAAC) with A grade with a CGPA of 3.71 on a four point scale.

It is affiliated by ACU, UGC, NAAC, PCI, AIU and is approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) as well.

Reputation and Rankings

Rankings for BITS Pilani are given for all its Campuses together (Since 2001)

A 2008 study by the Indian Semiconductor Association (ISA) found that BITS Pilani, IISc and the top five IITs accounted for 70–75 percent of Indian semiconductor research.

BITS Pilani was ranked 101-110th in the QS BRICS Ranking (2016) and 178th in the QS Asian University Ranking (2016). Times Higher Education ranked BITS Pilani 601-800th in the World University Ranking (2017) and 196th in BRICS & Emerging Economies (2017).

Annual rankings of Engineering colleges in India have been published by India Today since 1997. BITS Pilani ranked in the top five from 1997 to 2004. In 2009 the institute ranked fifth-top engineering college in India in 2012.

The Government of India's National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) rated BITS a five-star institution for the period ending 7 February 2007.

BITS Pilani has been accredited by the NAAC with a CGPA of 3.71 (out of 4.0) with an A grade for the period 1 April 2007 to 8 March 2009. This grade is valid until 2014.
