All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) was built up by an Act of Parliament in 1987 with a view to advance appropriate arranging and composed improvement of specialized training framework all through the nation.

AICTE helps advancement of subjective changes in specialized training in connection to the arranged quantitative development and directs appropriate upkeep of standards and norms and matters associated therewith.

The specialized instruction covers projects of instruction, look into, preparing in Engineering and Technology, Architecture, Town Planning, Management, Drug store, Applied Arts and Crafts and other related regions of Engineering and Technology.

AICTE Quality Improvement Schemes (AQIS), advances Quality in Technical Education through Research and Development and a few plans which intend to make specialized work on a precise premise with a specific end goal to build the accessible assemblage of information, including learning of man, culture and society and their association on Technology and the utilization of this information to devise new applications

Important Provisions of the AICTE Act on AQIS

Clause 10 (1) b : Coordinate the development of technical education in the country at all levels;

Clause 10 (1) c :
Allocate and disburse out of the fund of the Council such as grants, on such terms
and conditions as it may think fit to- Technical institutions, and Universities
imparting technical education in coordination with the Commission;

Clause 10 (1) d :
Promote innovation, research and development in established and new
technologies, generation, adaptation and adaptation of new technologies to meet
developmental requirements and for over-all improvement of educational
processes;

Clause 10 (1) e :
Formulate schemes for promoting technical education for women, handicapped
and weaker sections of the society;

Clause 10 (1) f :
Promote an effective link between technical education system and other relevant
systems including research and development organisations, industry and the
community;

Clause 10 (1) h :
Formulate schemes for the initial and in service training of the teachers and
identify institutions or centres and set up new centres for offering staff
development programmes including continuing education of teachers;

Clause 10 (1) q :
Withhold or discontinue grants in respect of courses, programmes to such
technical institutions which fail to comply with the directions given by the Council
within the stipulated period of time and take such other steps as may be necessary
for ensuring compliance of the directions of the Council;
