A specialist group from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) went by a proposed site for setting up All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on the outskirts of Rajkot city.

The master group was driven by Dr Shakti Kumar Gupta, administrator of Dr PR Center for Opthalmic Sciences at AIIMS, New Delhi.
