API 577 certification is valid for a three-year term

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

Candidates applying for API 571, 577 and 580 certification programs are no longer required to hold a current API 510, 570, or 653 certification in order to qualify.

If you already hold a current API 510, 570 or 653 certification, you automatically qualify to take the API 577 Advanced Welding Inspection & Metallurgy exam.

Minimum years of experience required are based upon your level of education and must have been acquired within the last 10 years.

BS or higher in engineering
1 year of experience in the petrochemical industry

2-year technical degree
2 years of experience in the petrochemical industry

High school diploma or equivalent
3 years of experience in the petrochemical industry

No Formal Education
4 years of experience in the petrochemical industry
