Syllabus
PAPER-I: GENERAL STUDIES

General Science
Current Events of National and International Importance.

History of India and Indian National Movement. India and World Geography.
General Mental Ability.

Questions on General Science will cover General appreciation and understanding of science including matters of every day observation and experience, as may be expected of a well educated person who has not made a special study of any particular scientific discipline.

In current events, knowledge of significant national and international events will be tested. In History of India, emphasis will be on broad general understanding of the subject in its social, economic and political aspects.

Questions on Indian National Movement will relate to the nature and character of the nineteenth century resurgence, growth of Nationalism and attainment of independence.

In geography emphasis will be on geography of India. Questions on geography of India will relate to physical, social and economic geography of the country, including the main features of the Indian agricultural and natural resources. On general mental ability, the candidates will be tested on reasoning and analytical abilities.

DISASTER MANAGEMENT

1. Concepts in disaster management and vulnerability profile of India / State of A.P.
2. Earth quakes / Cyclones / Tsunami / Floods / Drought – causes and effects.
3. Man made disasters - Prevention strategies.
4. Mitigation strategies / Mitigation measures.

PAPER-2: AUTOMOBILE ENGINEERING (Diploma standard)

Air standard cycles-Otto, Diesel, mean effective pressure-diagram factor, efficiency gearsnomenclature- simple, compound, epicyclic trains-calculations of torques. Shafts-solid,hallowshear stress and angular deflection due to torque applied - bending moments – combines movement and torque.

Friction - inclined plane-screw and nut-screw jack self locking. Fuels - fire and flash point - calorific value – calorimeters- octanee, certane numbers and its importance – stochometic ratio.Single cylinder – multi cylinder engine - pre whirl chambers-combustion delays - knocking,

detonation - Firing order-piston and piston rings – temperature profile of piston - Fuel system – carburetors, injection systems - Fuel tank-balancing of single cylinder engines. Lubrication and cooling systems in automobile –transmission - gear box - clashtype, synchromesh – propellershaft – universal coupling – differential - half shafts - floating,
clutches –

single, multiplate - bearing pressure-pressure plate - axial load - fluid clutch. Brakes and brake mechanisms mechanical, hydraulic and air brakes, steering - condition for correct steering – Ackermann steering.

Electrical system – delco system - circuit wiring working of electrical equipment. Exhaust gas analysis – pollutants - air conditioning of automobiles - wheel alignment – camber, castor – King pin inclination – toe-in, toe-out maintenance of tyres - traffic Rules.
