Candidates can go for IAS exam after there engineering. A computer science engineer is also applying for IAS exam.

Best combination in IAS exam is providing Subject those are studied by students during their graduation.

Optional subject after B tech compute are:
Mathematics
Physics
Chemistry

Exam pattern:

Essay type Indian Language Qualifying Paper
English Qualifying Paper
General Essay type paper
General Studies
Optional subject-I
Optional subject-II


Compulsory subjects in IAS exam:

Current events of national and international importance
Indian and World Geography- physical, social, economic geography of India and the world
Comprehension
Questions relating to English Language Comprehension skills of Class X level (last item in the Syllabus of Paper-II) will be tested through passages from English language only without providing Hindi translation thereof in the question paper.
General science
English language comprehension skills (Class X level)
Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude etc. (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. –Class X level)
Interpersonal skills including communication skills
General mental ability
Indian Polity and governance – constitution, political system, panchayati raj, public policy, Rights issues, etc.
General issues on environmental ecology, bio-diversity and climate change-that do not require subject specialization
Economic and social development – sustainable development, poverty, inclusion, demographics, social sector initiatives etc
Decision making and problem solving
History of India and Indian national movement
The questions will be of multiple choice, objective type.
Logical reasoning and analytical ability
