Bharathiar University School of Distance Education (SDE) was established in 1991. At present the school has 202 centres spreading over 23 states as study centres and the number is steadily increasing as more and more evinced interest in starting study centres.

For Undergraduate Courses:-
Candidates are having HSC passed/Polytechnic Diploma awarded by State Board of Technical Education, Govt. of Tamilnadu.

For Postgraduate Courses:
Candidates who have completed their study under 11+1+3 / 10+2+3 /10+3 (Diploma) +3 are only eligible for admission to any PG course in the School of Distance Education.
