The mission of National Brain Research Centre (NBRC) is to be a Centre of Excellence in Brain Research with State-of-art facilities, to evolve the centre through a networking approach and generate highly trained human resource.

NBRC was awarded Deemed University status in 2002 under Section 3 of UGC Act, 1956 (3 of 1956) vide notification No.F.9-52/2001-U.3 dated 20th May, 2002 issued by Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India. NBRC is the first Institute among the Institutes of the Department of Biotechnology to attain this status.

Courses Offered

Ph.D. (Neuroscience)
It offers Ph.D. Programme in Neuroscience to develop trained manpower having a broad overview of different aspects of Neuroscience.

It train students for its Ph.D. programme from diverse backgrounds including Masters degree in any branch related to Neurosciences, Psychology or M.B.B.S., B.E., or B.Tech.

Fellowship for Junior Research Fellows is 25,000/- per month and for Senior Research Fellows it is 28,000/-

M.Sc. (Neuroscience)
It is one of the first Institutes in India to develop an integrated multidisciplinary teaching programme in Life Sciences. It has initiated an M. Sc Programme in Neuroscience to develop trained manpower having a broad overview of different aspects of Neuroscience.

It introduces students for its M. Sc. (Neuroscience) programme to Neurosciences, M.B.B.S., B.E., B. Tech or Psychology. It recognizes that understanding brain functions requires a fusion of knowledge from multiple disciplines.

M. Sc. (Neuroscience) students are provided a fellowship of 5000/- per month.

It offers fellowships, hostel accommodation, transportation facility, medical repayment to its students.

Summer Training and Short-term Programmes
It conducts a Summer Training Programme through 3 National Science Academies viz:
(1) Indian Academy of Science, Bangalore
(2) Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi
(3) National Academy of Sciences, Allahabad

The summer training is for a period of 8 weeks. One is provided with shared accommodation in the NBRC hostel during the training period.
One is encouraged to attend seminars and journal clubs organized at the Institute.
The summer training projects give students an exposure to Neuroscience and encourage to consider it as a future career option.
