Re: Cese iitk

Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur is a premier institution for engineering.

It was established in the year 1959.

It is located in Kalyanpur, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India.

The Centre for Environmental Science & Engineering (CESE) at the IIT,
Kanpur is conceived with the specific aim of creating an interdisciplinary
research facility integrating the fields of engineering, science and medicine
to address environmental issues.

The CESE building has been conceptualized, designed and constructed as a
"building in the garden" that is sustainable and environment friendly. The
facility has obtained a 5 star TERI-GRIHA Green Building certification

CESE is on a plot area of 175 000 square metre (about 4.5 acres). The
facility stocks laboratories, seminar rooms, and discussion rooms.

Given the function of the building, it was definite that it should be designed in
an environment friendly manner.

The building has incorporated many green features following the TERI-GRIHA
recommendations. Some special features of this building are as follows.

The building is fully complaint with the ECBC (Energy Conservation Building
Code).

Sustainable site planning has been integrated to maintain favourable
microclimate.

The architectural design has been adjusted as per climate and sun path
analysis.

The building has energy-efficient artificial lighting plan and daylight
integration.

It also has energy-efficient air conditioning design with controls integrated to
reduce annual energy ingestion.

Passive strategies such as an earth air tunnel have been merged in the HVAC
design to reduce the cooling load.

The EPI (Energy Performance Index) of the building is expected to be 45.43
Wh/m2/annum, which is 41.3% less than the TERI GRIHA benchmark.

In contrast to a conventional building, 59% energy savings are predicted in
the CESE building. The centre has attempted to conserve and utilize
resources efficiently; and recycle, reuse, and recharge the systems at every
stage of design and construction. TERI was the energy consultant for the
building design.
