Re: Civil Services Examination (CSAT)

The Civil Services Examination is Conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) of India, an autonomous entity established in 1950 under Article 315 of the Constitution of India.

Every year, the UPSC conducts examinations for recruitment to the Indian Civil Service for posts given below

Indian Administrative Service

India Foreign Service
Indian Police Service
Group A
Indian P & T Accounts & Finance Service
Indian Audit and Accounts Service
Indian Revenue service (Customs and Central Excise) Service
Indian Defence Accounts Service
Indian Revenue Service(I.T.)
Indian Ordnance Factories Service (Assistant Works Manager, Administration)
Indian Postal Service
Indian Civil Accounts Service
Indian Railway Traffic Service
Indian Railway Accounts Service
Indian Railway Personnel Service
Posts of Assistant Security Commissioner in Railway Protection Force (RPF)
Indian Defence Estates Service
Indian Information Service (Junior Grade)

Eligibility Criteria

Nationality

Only Indian nationals are eligible for IAS and IPS.
For other services a candidate can be either of the following:
a. a citizen of India,
b. a subject of Nepal,
c. a subject of Bhutan,
d. a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before January 1, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in Indi

Age Limit:

Candidates should not aged less than 21 years and not more than 32 years.

(In case of candidates belonging to SC/ ST category, the upper age limit is relaxable up to five years. In case of OBC candidates, the upper age limit is relaxable up to three years).

Educational Qualification:

Candidates Should possess a degree of any of the universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament.

CSAT Syllabus :


CSAT (Civil Services Aptitude Test) has two papers:
General Studies
General Ability Test

Exam Pattern :

There are two compulsory papers of 200 marks each. Both question papers are of objective type (multiple-choice questions).

Paper I comprises 100 questions with each question carrying 2 marks each while paper II has 80 questions with each question carrying 2.5 marks each.

There are four alternatives for answers to every question.

The question papers are set in both in Hindi and English.
