Re: CJ Huff Joplin Schools
Dr. C.J. Huff is serving as superintendent of Joplin (Mo.) Schools since 2008. Before that, Dr. Huff served four years as the Superintendent of Schools in the Eldon School District, near Lake of the Ozarks. He has also served as a principal in the Nixa, Springfield, and Bolivar School Districts and as an elementary classroom teacher in Bolivar, MO and Pleasanton, KS. Under Dr. Huff's leadership, Joplin Schools developed the Bright Futures Program which brings together business, social/human services, and faith-based organizations to create support structures that allow students to learn and thrive and has also created a culture in the community where education is valued. His leadership, along with the core values and communication structures that he put in place after joining Joplin Schools, would prove to be essential to the recovery efforts of the community in the aftermath of the tornado that destroyed the city and schools on May 22, 2011. He was the 2012-13 Missouri Superintendent of the Year and a finalist for AASA’s 2013 National Superintendent of the Year. He also received NSPRA’s 2012 Bob Grossman Leadership in School Communications Award. Dr. Huff uses public relations and communications as a strategic management tool and champions continuous improvement through training and a district-wide emphasis on effective, two-way communication. Other recognitions he got:- People magazine named him as one of their "2011 Heroes Among Us." Other recognitions include the 2013 Missouri “Superintendent of the Year” award, one of four finalists for the 2013 National Superintendent of the Year award, 2012 Missouri “National Education Association Horace Mann Award”, National School Public Relations Association’s “Bob Grossman Leadership in School Communications Award”, eSchool News 2012 “Tech-Savvy Superintendent Award”, Missouri Association of School Administrators 2012 “Pearce Award”, Missouri School Public Relations Association 2012 “Administrator of the Year” and the 2011 American School Board Journal Magna Award/Grand Prize Winner for “Joplin’s Bright Futures” initiative focusing on community engagement and drop-out prevention.
