The Central Public Health and Environmental Engineering Organization (CPHEEO) is Technical Wing of the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India, and manages the issues identified with Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Including Solid Waste Management in the Country.

The CPHEEO was constituted under the recent Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in 1953 according to the proposals of the Environmental Hygiene Committee to manage Water Supply and Sanitation in the Country.

Despite the fact that water supply and sanitation is a State subject, the arrangements, procedures and rules are being given by CPHEEO to the States and UTs Governments including Municipal Corporations/Committees. The CPHEEO assumes an essential part in preparing the plans postured for outside subsidizing offices including World Bank/JBIC/ADB/and Bilateral and Multilateral subsidizing organizations and institutional financing, for example, LIC. It goes about as an Advisory body at Central level to exhort the concerned State organizations and Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in execution, operation and upkeep of urban water supply, sanitation and Solid Waste Management ventures and receives most recent advancements in these sub parts.

In a joint effort with UNDP CPHEEO has brought out PC programming for plan of water supply appropriation systems, sewerage systems, prudent size of pumping principle and disseminated them to every one of the States and ULBs for broad utilize.

To its credit, it has arranged and distributed the accompanying Manuals, which are specialized manuals for the assistance of field engineers:
