Criteria for IAS Exam

What is the eligibility criteria required to appear for IAS Exam???????

IAS exam is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

IAS Exam Eligibility Criteria

Nationality
-You must be a citizen of India.

Education
- You must hold a degree of any of Universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University Under Section-3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification

Age Limit
-You must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years
-The upper age limit prescribed above will be relaxable :
upto a maximum of five years -- Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe.
upto a maximum of three years -- Other Backward Classes who are eligible to avail of reservation applicable to such candidates.
upto a maximum of five years --if a candidate had ordinarily been domiciled in the State of Jammu & Kashmir during the period from the 1st January, 1980 to the 31st day of December, 1989.
upto a maximum of three years-- in the case of Defence Services personnel disabled in operations during hostilities
upto a maximum of five years --in the case of ex-servicemen including Commissioned Officers and ECOs/SSCOs who have rendered at least five years Military Service
Upto a maximum of five years ---in the case of ECOs/SSCOs who have completed an initial period of assignment of five years Military Service
upto a maximum of 10 years ---in the case of blind, deaf - muteand orthopaedically handicapped persons.

IAS Prelims Syllabus

General Studies Paper I--
Maximum marks : 200
Number of Questions : 100
Total Time : 120 minutes (02 hours)

History of India and Indian national movement
Indian and World Geography
Indian Polity and governance
Economic and social development
General issues on environmental ecology, bio-diversity and climate change
General Science

General Studies Paper II--
Maximum marks : 200
Number of Questions : 80
Total Time : 120 minutes (02 hours)

Comprehension
Interpersonal skills which include communication skills
Logical reasoning & analytical ability
Decision making & problem solving
General mental ability
Basic numeracy
English language comprehension skills (Class X level)

IAS Mains Syllabus --

Paper I (One of the Indian Languages to be selected by the candidate)
Maximum marks : 200

Paper II (English)
Maximum marks : 300

Paper III (Essay)
Maximum marks : 200

Paper IV & V (General Studies)
Maximum marks : 600

Paper VI, VII, VIII, IX (Any two subjects (each having 2 papers) to be selected from the prescribed optional subjects)
Maximum marks : 1200
