Department of Applied Geology was established in 1970. A pioneer department in the entire north-east India dedicated to the development of human resources in the field of geosciences especially for oil industries for the last 40 years.

Highlights

Besides the normal R & D activity, the department of applied geology is giving more emphasis in the fields of:

Water resources & environmental studies of Brahmaputra Basin including ground water

Basin evaluation & hydrocarbon prospect of the region

Economic minerals (metallic & non-metallic) of the region

Geo-tectonics & geological hazards of the region

DST-FIST sponsored department (2002-2007 and 2010-2015; amount rs. 37.5 lakh and 57.0 lakh) with sophisticated instrumentation and computer facilities.

Received financial assistance of rupees 25.0 lakh and 37.0 lakh under UGC’s DRS (sap, 2004-2009 & 2011-2016) for the project on Geo-Resources appraisal of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh

Received Research grants amounting Rs. 88.83 lacs from DST AGAINST 04 (four) ongoing projects in 2007.
