Coal India Limited (CIL) the state owned coal mining corporate came into being in 1975. Today, it is the single largest coal producer in the world. Operating through 82 mining areas CIL is an apex body with 7 wholly owned coal producing subsidiaries and 1 mine planning and Consultancy Company spread over 8 provincial states of India.

Shri. Anil Kumar Jha, a Post-Graduate (M. Tech) Mining Engineer from Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad, took over as Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Coal India Limited on 18, May 2018.

He has over three decades of experience under his belt in mine planning, production, management supervision, direction and control of underground as well as open cast coal mines.


He is the recipient of Best Chief Executive Award conferred by GeoMine Tech for outstanding performance of MCL during 2017-18. He is presently the President of MGMI a 113-year old Institute dedicated to promoting the scientific study of mining and mineral industries of India.
