Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), India's military innovative work association, has chosen to rename its rocket complex in Hyderabad after previous president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, giving a honor to one of the nation's most well known researchers.

Defence Minister have renamed the complex on 15 October 2015, on the event of Kalam's 84th birth commemoration.

It is at this unpredictable that Kalam, India's eleventh president, started his vocation as a researcher; he worked there for almost two decades.

The rocket complex contains Advanced Systems Laboratory (ASL), Defense Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) and Research Center Imarat (RCI), considered a brainchild of Kalam.

"As organizer(- )chief, Dr Kalam considered and controlled RCI as a generator of basic rocket advances.

Kalam, who managed the Pokhran atomic tests in 1998 and was exceptionally mainstream amid his administration from 2002-07, kicked the bucket in July. Affectionately called " “People’s President", Kalam charmed himself to the masses by opening up the entryways of Rashtrapati Bhavan, the palatial authority living arrangement of the nation's first resident to the general population, particularly youngsters, whom he saw as the nation's future.

Kalam filled in as a researcher and chairman at DRDO for four decades. He assumed a basic part in the improvement of middle of the road ballistic extent rocket Agni, and surface-to-surface rocket Prithvi.
