Surehaven Glasgow is registered with Healthcare Improvement Scotland as an Independent Low Secure Hospital, and provide accommodations to twenty one patients aged between 16 to 65 with a primary diagnosis of mental illness some of whom are liable to be detained under the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) Scotland Act 2003. Facilities: It is a 21 bedded unit split into 2 gender specific wards, male ward with 11 ensuite rooms and female with 10 ensuite rooms It is excellently designed to maximize communal and living space for the patients as well as providing activity rooms for the facilitation of therapeutic programmes. Each ward has its specific community lounge, dining room and quiet room as well as access to its own secure garden, one of which has a hard surface recreational area for patients sporting activities. Selected external smoking areas are provided. The hospital is on the bus route making it easy to house visitors and authorised leave for patients within the local community. For people there is a visitor’s room, a separate visitor’s garden and a specific area set aside for children’s visits. Safety and security is paramount within this environment and the building specification has been designed to meet the requirements of the National Minimum Standards for Low Secure Hospitals while retaining a more homely style of environment.
