Re: DST-IISc Centennial Chair Professorship
The DST or Department of Science and Technology is the major agency in India for the endorsement of basic sciences with a share of nearly 50% of extra mural funding of research projects. It also plays a critical role in technology development programmes relating to key sectors and in the development of international cooperation in science and technology. The IISc or Indian Institute of Science provides quality education and excels in research and development with cutting-edge research carried out in several disciplines of Science, Engineering and Technology. The Department of Science and Technology has established the DST-IISc Centenary Chair Professorships at the Indian Institute of Science to attract world class researchers to visit the Indian Institute of Science in particular and India in general to conduct joint research and start cutting edge research and development at the Institute. The presence of these visiting professors at the Institute is expected to stimulate research in cutting-edge areas and further productive collaborations. Appointees to the prestigious DST-IISc Centenary Chair Professorship positions must be exceptional persons who have distinguished themselves in academic or professional work in the apt field. Nomination for these Chairs is made (after obtaining the consent of the nominee) by leaders of academic Institutes across the world (Presidents/ Directors/ Vice Chancellors/Provosts/Rectors/Deans), Fellows of recognized National Academies and distinguished professionals from the industry. The scientist chosen for the award will have to spend a minimum of one month at the Institute with no limits on the maximum time. DST-IISc Centennial Chair Professorship |
