Re: Eligibility criteria of B.Tech Student for Technical Branch in Indian Air Force IAF

AFCAT or Air Force Common Admission Test is conducted by the Indian Air Force for selection of officers in all branches of the IAF (except medical and dental) viz. Flying Branch (Short Service Commission only), Technical Branch (Permanent Commission and Short Service Commission) and Ground Duty Branch (Permanent Commission and Short Service Commission).

It is conducted twice a year (in the month of February and August). The advertisement for the same is published in the months of December and June respectively.

Technical Branch

One should have studied a minimum of eight subjects from the following list of subjects, in the degree programme:

(1) Physics / Engineering Physics.
(2) Mathematics / Engineering Mathematics.
(3) Engineering Graphics / Engineering Drawing.
(4) Electrical Engineering / Electrical Technology.
(5) Control Engineering.
(6) Microprocessors.
(7) Digital Electronics / Basic Electronics.
(8) Computer Networks.
(9) Information Technology.
(10) Network Theory Design.
(11) Telecommunication Systems.
(12) Electronic Circuit Design.
(13) Radar Theory.
(14) Switching Theory.
(15) Instrumentation.
(16) Microwave Engineering.
(17) Antenna and Wave Propagation.
(18) Electronic Devices.

Age:
20 to 26 years

Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics) AE (L):
Candidates applying for AE (L) branch would be eligible if they have undergone a minimum of four year degree qualification from a recognized university or cleared Sections A and B examination of Associate membership examination of the institute of electronics and telecommunication engineers by actual studies

One must have studied at least eight subjects out the eighteen subjects listed below in the qualifying exam Physics/Engineering physics, Maths/Engineering Maths, Engineering graphics/engineering drawings, electrical engineering/electrical technology, control engineering, microprocessors, Digital electronics/basic electronics, computer networks, IT, Network theory design, telecommunication systems, electronics circuit design, radar theory, switching theory, instrumentation microwave engineering, antenna and wave propagation, electronics devices.

All candidates applying for AE (L) branch should have scored a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate in all papers put together

Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical) AE (M):
Candidates applying for AE (M) branch would be eligible if they have undergone a minimum of four year degree qualification from a recognized university or cleared Section A and B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India by actual studies.

One must have studied at least eight subjects out the eighteen subjects listed below in the qualifying exam Physics/Engineering physics, Maths/Engineering Maths, Engineering graphics/, Automotive engineering, plant engineering, industrial engineering, engineering mechanics, strength of material, aerodynamics, Thermodymaics, and applications/ heat power engineering, heat and mass transfer, theory of machines , (Kinematics and dynamics of machinery , fluid mechanics/turbo machines, flight mechanics, machine drawing/machine design, mechatronics, material science, metallurgy, vibrations, workshop ethnology/manufacturing nanotechnology/production engineering, bydralics and pneumatics, aircraft structures.

All candidates applying for AE (M) branch should have scored a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate in all papers put together
