EPMA Facility IIT Roorkee

Will you please tell me the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee provides the facility of Electron Probe Micro Analyzer (EPMA)? Give me some information about this facility, where it is provided? Also give me the list of some other Colleges that provides this facility?

Re: EPMA Facility IIT Roorkee

EPMA is a microbeam analytical technique capable of anallyzing areas of 1-2 micron diameter with a limit of detection as low as 200 ppm.

It basically works by bombarding a micro-volume of a sample with a focused electron beam.

The EPMA at IIT Roorkee has catered to the need of various workers from all over India for the last 19 years.

FEATURES of EPMA
Three wavelength-dispersive spectrometers (WDS):
Can analyze all elements of the periodic table except the lighter elements and gases.
Three crystal types: TAP, PET and LIF.

Secondary-electron (SE) and backscattered-electron (BSE) imaging:
SE image resolution: 6 nanometers (at 35 kV accelerating voltage).
BSE image modes: composition and topography.
Scanning image magnification: 40X to 300,000X.

Multi-element line analyses.
Multi-element area maps.
Matrix corrections using ZAF.

High-speed large specimen stage (HSLSS XM-81010):
Maximum sample size: 100 x 100 x 50 mm (H).
Maximum analyzable area: 90 x 90 mm.
Stage reproducibility: less than 0.5 microns.
Drive speed: 15 mm/sec maximum.

Accelerating voltage: 0.2 to 40 kV.
Electron probe current range: 1E-12 to 1E-5 Amps.
Electron probe current stability: 0.001/hr with beam stabilizer.
Integrated visible-light microscopy: reflected light at 400X.
