First Mayor of Pune Municipal Corporation
Can you list me the name of the current Mayor of Pune Municipal Corporation? The Pune Mahanagar Palika or Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) was established in 1950. The PMC controls the whole administration of Pune. The executive power of the corporation is vested in the municipal commissioner, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer appointed by the Maharashtra state government. The city of Pune is divided into 48 municipal wards (zones), represented by 3 members from each ward. The local administration of wards is mainly administered by an Assistant Municipal Commissioner. The corporators of the different wards are elected by the people through Municipal Elections which are held quinquennially and in which local members of all major political parties participate. Mayor The Mayor of Pune is the first citizen of the Indian city of Pune. One is the chief of the Pune Municipal Corporation, but his/her role is largely ceremonial as the real powers are vested in the Municipal Commissioner. One is elected from within the ranks of the council in a quinquennial election. The elections are conducted in all 76 regions in the city to elect corporators. One is generally the leader of a party (or coalition of parties) that has a majority. Prashant Jagtap (Nationalist Congress Party) is the current Mayor of Pune.
