Potassium Ferricyanide is the synthetic compound with the recipe K3[Fe(CN)6]. This splendid red salt contains the octahedrally planned [Fe(CN)6]3− ion. It is dissolvable in water and its answer demonstrates some green-yellow fluorescence.

Arrangement

Potassium ferricyanide is made by going chlorine through an answer of potassium ferrocyanide. Potassium ferricyanide isolates from the arrangement:

2 K4[Fe(CN)6] + Cl2 → 2 K3[Fe(CN)6] + 2 KCl

Structure


Like other metal cyanides, strong potassium ferricyanide has a confused polymeric structure. The polymer comprises of octahedral [Fe(CN)6]3-focuses crosslinked with K+ particles that are bound to the CN ligands. The K+ - NCFe linkages break when the strong is broken down in water.

Safety
