Re: How to Enter Indian Police Service

The eligibility requirements and other things needed to become Police Officer through IPS (Indian Police Service) Exam in India:

Nationality
o a citizen of India,
o or a citizen of Nepal,
o or a citizen of Bhutan,
o or a Tibetan refugee(came to India before 1st January 1962 to be settled in India permanently)
o or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Educational Eligibility
One must a graduate from any university incorporated under an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India.
One waiting for graduations final exam result can apply for prelims, but after qualifying prelims examination need a proof which shows that one is graduates so that they can apply for mains exam.

Age Limit
One should be between the ages of 21 years- 32 years on 1st August.
Upper age limit
1. SC/St candidates- up to 5 years relaxation
2. OBC candidates- up to 3 years relaxation
o Handicapped person (blind, deaf-mute and orthopedically) – up to 10years relaxation
1. J&K resident, Ex- Military Servicemen- up to 5 years relaxation

Depending on above categories viz. Gen, OBC, SC/ST, Disabled

Ex-serviceman with five years duty specific
If general then 32+5=37OBC then 32+5+3=40SC/ST then 32+5+5=42
Depending on above categories viz. Gen, OBC, SC/ST, Disabled

Physical Requirement
Height –
o Male minimum 165 cm & ST (not the SC/ OBC) – 160 cm
o Female minimum 150 cm & ST (not SC/ OBC) – 145 cm
Chest –
o Male Minimum 84 cm with 5cm expansion.
o Female Minimum 79 cm with 5cm expansion.
Eye sight –
o 6/6 or 6/9 distant vision for good eye.
o 6/12 or 6/9 for worst eye.
o Near vision J 1 for good eye. J2 for worst eye.
