The devastation caused to Offshore Tanker Terminal has forced HPCL Visakh Refinery to have only one option to receive crude from Single Point Mooring (SPM).

Visakhapatnam Port Trust Chairman M.T. Krishna Babu told The Hindu that heavy damage to the terminal would provide only one option to receive crude through SPM.

SPM was built a few years ago by HPCL 4.2 km from Dolphin’s Nose to transport crude from Very Large Crude Carriers though a pipeline to save its freight cost.

The loss of terminal was a big blow and its reconstruction would take a long time.

VPT has already informed HPCL that putting the terminal back to original shape would take a long time.

Now crude is proposed to be handled using the alternative SPM facility after carrying out necessary integrity checks
