procedure as follows

IAS New Exam Pattern 2016

IAS New Exam Pattern 2016 has declared by UPSC for those candidates who
want to appear in Prelims and Mains exams.

Weightage of Marks

Marks in the Final Main examination will as:

Subject Marks

General studies four papers 1,000

Optional subject I & II Paper 500

Essay 200

English Paper 100

Personality Test 275

After the declare amendment to the commission there is little change in
English paper marks and the Essay Marks now the marks of English paper
will not include for prepare the final merit list but the essay paper become
250 marks, its now as fallow:

Subject Marks

General studies four papers 1,000

Optional subject I & II Paper 500

Essay 250

English Paper 300

Personality Test 275

One Indian Language 300

Selection procedure

Candidates are filtered at every stage through a process of elimination.
The competitive examination comprises of three successive stages :

Civil Services - Main Examination - Written Test
