Will you please give me idea for the Duties and Responsibilities of Indian Foreign Service (IFS) Officer??? Here I am giving you idea for the Duties and Responsibilities of Indian Foreign Service (IFS) Officer -The main aim of IFS officers is to serve the Nation in Foreign Services. -The Job role involves the Group A and Group B Services. -The role deals with the external affairs of the country, which includes diplomacy, trade and cultural relations. Career of an IFS officer in his/her designation is like, At an embassy--- Third Secretary Second Secretary (promotion upon being confirmed in service) First Secretary Counsellor Minister Deputy Chief of Mission/Deputy High Commissioner/Deputy Permanent Representative Ambassador/High Commissioner/Permanent Representation/ At the Ministry of External Affairs--- Under Secretary Deputy Secretary Director Joint Secretary Additional Secretary Secretary Responsibilities: -Representing India in its Embassies, High Commissions, Consulates, and Permanent Missions to multilateral organisations like UN. -Protecting India’s national interests in the country of his/her posting. -Promoting friendly relations with the receiving state as also its people, including NRI / PIO. -Reporting accurately on developments in the country of posting which are likely to influence the formulation of India’s policies. -Negotiating agreements on various issues with the authorities of the receiving state. -Extending consular facilities to foreigners and Indian nationals abroad. -At home, Ministry of External Affairs is responsible for all aspects of external relations. -All these roles and responsibilities are defined by Govt of India and cannot be written in our words.
