The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) was formed in 1965 by Government of India. It boasts of highly qualified professionals that have significant work experience in their field of specializations. It is maintained and regulated by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Govt. of India.

It offers one year full time post graduate diploma in Journalism and also imparts post graduate diploma in Advertising and Public Relations.

IIMC with its headquarters at Delhi also has five Regional Centres in Aizawl (Mizoram), Amravati (Maharashtra), Dhenkanal (Odisha), Jammu (J&K) and Kottyam (Kerala).

It stands ahead of others in its infrastructure and permanent faculty status. The per faculty student ratio is pegged at about 1:8, better than any Indian media school.

Courses
It offers a variety of disciplines including print journalism, photo journalism, radio journalism, television journalism, development communication, communication research, advertising and public relations.

It offers Postgraduate Diploma in:
• Journalism (Hindi, English and Odia )
• Radio and TV Journalism
• Advertising and Public Relations

Admissions to these courses are highly competitive consisting All India Entrance Examination followed by Group Discussions and Interview.

It also offers Diploma Course in Development Journalism for non-aligned and developing countries.

It was basically set up to provide training to the officers of the Indian Information Service. It also conducts a number of specialised short-term courses to meet the training needs of media personnel working in government and public sector organisations.
