Bioengineering encompasses several diverse but inter-related fields that use methods and techniques employed by engineers to investigate, understand, design, model and develop biological systems and related applications. This basic definition of the area gives it its interdisciplinary nature and also its ever-evolving flavor of exciting research.

The following themes generally fall under the larger umbrella of Bioengineering research:

Biomechanics and Rehabilitation Engineering
Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering
Biophysics and Computational Biology
Neural Engineering
Biomolecular imaging, diagnostics and therapeutics
Systems and Synthetic Biology


Eligibility and Application process

The programme is open to only Second and Third year Undergraduates in disciplines related to Bioengineering.


Selection will be made on the basis of academic record, aptitude for research, accomplishments and area(s) of research interest. Diversity among selected students will be considered when all other criteria are judged similar. BEST fellows successfully completing the full programme will receive a total stipend of Rs 10000 (INR) and BEST programme certificate.
