Re: IIST Center
A Nanoscience Centre was initiated in Department of Chemistry, Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology to support and promote the advanced research on Nanoscience and technology. The centre’s long term objectives are: (1) Undertake challenging research projects in this area to meet the future requirements of ISRO, (2) Establish comprehensive research facilities under the same umbrella to attract intellectuals across the globe, (3) Mould high quality human resources to undertake future challenges, (4) To act as nodal centre, (5) To serve as a link between industry and academia in India Current Status • Established Facilities: A total budget of Rs. 330 Lakhs was sanctioned for the procurement of equipments such as glove box, nanoparticle size analyser planetary ball mill, high performance liquid chromatography, XRD analyser, plasma reactor and electrospinning machine. These facilities are used for the research activities in the Nanoscience and Technology domain. • Research/Project work carried out: The first phase of the Nanoscience centre envisages R&D activities in the broad areas such as synthesis of nanomaterials for developing nano-composites for structural and photonic applications, high efficiency photovoltaic cells and batteries and biomaterials. • Proposed Future Work: In order to meet the proposed long term objectives, further expansion for the nano centre by adding facilities such as scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), etc. is highly essential. Nanoscience Centre of IIST Current Status Contact Detail: Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (Dept. of Space, Govt. of India) Valiamala, Thiruvananthapuram-695 547 Kerala, India. |
