Re: IIT Bombay Bridge

As you have asked about the rules for bridge competition of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, I am giving you information about it, check below for the details

Task:

Design a Cable Stayed Bridge using Popsicle sticks, cotton strings and Fevicol as adhesive (without using any strengthening coating) that can sustain the maximum possible load with minimum deflection, satisfying all the understated constraints.

Rules:

Shape - the deck should be rectangular or C section in the longitudinal direction.
Once the structure is weighed, you are not allowed to modify your structure in any way.
If any of these constraints are not met, point deductions (as mentioned) or disqualification may be imposed at the sole discretion of the organizers.
Team Aakaar’s decision shall be final and binding on all.
The organizers reserve all rights to change any or all of the above rules as they deem fit.

Judging Criteria:

The judging of the structure is based on 3 important criteria:

Dead mass of the Bridge (M) in kg
Vertical Deflection of the centre of the bridge deck during failure (D) in mm
Load carried by the structure before failure (L)
