About the Department :The department of Humanities and Social Sciences was founded in 1958. At present, the department has five disciplines, namely, Economics, English, Philosophy, Psychology and Sociology. Its faculty offers a wide spectrum of courses at the B.Tech, M.Tech, M.Phil. and Ph.D. levels.

As you wants to do Mphil in Sociology let me tell you that the IIT Bombay Does not Offered Mphil in Sociology It Offered Mphil in Planning and Development the details of the Course is As Follow

About the Mphil Course : The M.Phil. Programme of the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, with a specialization in Planning and Development, was launched in July 1993. It is a 4 semester interdisciplinary course.


Course Structure :

The duration of the programme is four semesters.

Semester 1: 4 courses + Seminar I

Semester 2: 3 courses + First stage of the dissertation

Semester 3: 1 course + R & D project

Semester 4: Second and third stages of the dissertation


Admission Details :

Admission to this programme is open to those who qualify in MET/GATE/UGC-JRF/UGC-Lecturership examinations. A Master's Degree in Arts / Commerce (with 55% marks), or M.Sc. / B.Tech (with 60% marks with adequate background in the Social Sciences) is essential. Those appearing for the above exams may also apply.
