Re: IIT Bombay Phd In Management

Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management, IIT Bombay offers a programme leading to the PhD degree in all areas of management.

Admission to this program is open to individuals from a range of academic disciplines, including engineering, natural science, humanities and the social sciences.

IIT Bombay accepts applications for Ph.D. Programme round the year.

However, they are processed twice a year (i.e. Autumn Semester (July session) and Spring Semester (January session)

Criteria for Preparing the Merit List (Max. marks 100)

The criteria for preparing the Merit List will be as follows

CAT Score : 20 %
Interview (WAT & PI) : 44 %
Profile : 36%

Personal Appearance (44%) :

SJMSOM IIT Bombay will consider the following weights

Writing Skills (WAT) : 10%
Personal Interview (PI) : 34%

Functional Knowledge : 12%
General & Social Awareness : 10%
Communication Skills : 12%

Profile (36%) :

The following weights will be considered for profiling

Academic Profile :23 %
Work experience : 9 %
Extra-curricular Activities : 4 %

1.3.1 For Academic Profile (23%), following will be the weights
10th Standard : 5%
12th Standard : 8%
Under Graduation : 10%

The formula for calculating the weights for academic profile will be as follows:
Birth Category = GN / OBC-NC

Marks/CGPA Range 10th 12th UG
For Marks (in %) >60 – 90 =5 x (X - 60)/30 =8 x (Y - 60)/30 =10 x (Z - 60)/30
For CGPA (of max. 10) >6.5 – 9.5 =5 x (X – 6.5)/3 =8 x (Y – 6.5)/3 =10 x (Z – 6.5)/3

Where X, Y and Z are the marks/ Grades obtained in 10th, 12th and UG respectively.

For marks below 60% and below CGPA of 6.5 – no marks will be given.

For marks above 90% and grades above 9.5, full weights of 5, 8 and 10 will be given.

For Marks (in %) >55 – 85 =5 x (X - 55)/30 =8 x (Y - 55)/30 =10 x (Z - 55)/30
For CGPA (of max. 10) >6.0 – 9.0 =5 x (X – 6.0)/3 =8 x (Y – 6.0)/3 =10 x (Z – 6.0)/3

Where X, Y and Z are the marks/ Grades obtained in 10th, 12th and UG respectively

For marks below 60% and below CGPA of 6.5 – no marks will be given.

For marks above 85% and grades above 9.0, full weights of 5, 8 and 10 will be given.
The Work Experience (Max. wt. = 9%) will have the following weights based on number of months:*

Score =(n x 9)/48 = 9 – 2x(n-48)/3 0

Note: * only relevant experience in terms of completed months will be considered; ‘n’ is relevant experience

Extra-curricular Activities (4%)

The extra-curricular activities as pursued from Class 11th standard onwards will have the following weights
