Academic programs at CSE department

The Department offers the following academic programs:

Course-Work Oriented Programs

B.Tech. program:
It is a four-year course oriented undergraduate program.
It is spread across all the semesters.
It includes a set of core courses offered by the department, a set of departmental electives and some free electives.
Apart from this, one needs to complete 3 courses in one’s minor area.
The minor area must be different from computer science.
Besides, one must also complete a project in the eighth semester towards the fulfilment of the degree requirements.

M.Tech. program:
It is a two-year course oriented graduate program.
One has to take a set of core courses and a set of electives.
The course work is spread across the first two semesters with an option of taking one elective in the third semester.
It is followed by a project in the third and fourth semester in which one can take up a project of interest, supervised by a faculty member.

Dual Degree program:
It is 5 year program.
At the end of five years, the student is awarded both a B. Tech and M. Tech. degree.

Research Programs

M.S. and Ph.D. programs:
They are postgraduate research oriented programs.
The scholar works in an area of interest under the supervision of a faculty member. The scholar has to obtain a minimum number of credits by taking courses.
The highlight of the program is the independent research work taken by scholar, leading to a thesis at the end of the program.
The average duration of an M.S. program is between 2 to 3 years and that of a PhD. program is between 4 to 5 years.
In the fourth semester, an M.S. scholar has an option to upgrade to the Ph.D. program without having to go through the admission procedure.
