Re: IIT Madras Geotechnical
The IIT Madras Geotechnical Engineering Division in the Civil engineering department was established in the early 1960's. Major areas of research in the Geotechnical engineering includes physico-chemical behaviour of soils, strength and deformation behaviour of soils, soil dynamics & earthquake engineering and machine foundations, soil stabilisation, stone/sand columns, reinforced earth, geosynthetics, environmental geotechnique and waste disposal, unsaturated soil mechanics, rock mechanics, Numerical methods in geotechnical engineering. Geotechnical Engineering Programs The division offers a two year full time M.Tech Program and research programs (MS & Ph.D) in Geotechncial engineering specialisation. A number of theory and laboratory courses are offered by the faculty covering the diverse areas of Geotechnical Engineering. Depending on the academic necessity, the students are also encouraged to take courses in other Civil Engineering areas and other departments. Some of the undergraduate and post-graduate courses offered in the division are: Advanced Soil Mechanics Soil Dynamics Reinforced Soil Structures Advanced Foundation Engineering Elastic Analysis in Geomechanics Applied Soil Mechanics Ground Improvement Techniques Geotechnics for Infrastructure FEM and Constitutive Modelling in Geomechanics Field Tests and Monitoring Geotechnical Engineering Rock Engineering Earthquake Geotechnical Engineering Engineering Geology Research Areas Behavior of Pile Walls in Liquefying Soil Layers Analytical and Experimental Studies on Geotextile Reinforced Road Aggregates Strengthening of Week Soil Against Liquefaction Liquefaction Modeling Using Computer Techniques Study And Design of Vertical Drains for Ground Improvement Behavior of Reinforced Soil Walls Under Dynamic Loads Finite Element Analysis of Pile Jetting Probabilistic Settlement Analysis of Shallow Foundations Reliability Analysis of Piled – Raft Foundation Stochastic Ground Response Analysis Dynamic Lateral Response of Piles in Clay A Continuous Spring Model for Soil-Structure Interaction for the Analysis of Beams, Plates, Shells, and their Combinations on Elastic Foundations Design of Ground Improvement Using Stone Columns Improvement of Expansive Soil by Deep Insitu Technique Liquefaction Resistance of Soils With Plastic and Non-Plastic Fines Studies on Construction of Embankments on Soft Clay Soil Using Geocell layers and Stone Columns Drag Load on Piles and Remedial Methods Stochastic Finite Element Method for Reinforced Soil Structures Contact- IIT Madras Sardar Patel Road, Opposite to C.L.R.I, Beside The Adyar Cancer Institute, Adyar, Chennai, Tamil Nadu 600036 |
