The Department of Engineering Design was established in IIT Madras as its 16th Department with a focus on interdisciplinary teaching and research.

The short term course at IIT Madras strives to impart adequate background on automation as well as to provide hands-on training to truly appreciate the various automation and Mechatronics related concepts

Course details:

Automation is a set of technologies that results in operation of machines and systems without significant human intervention and achieves performance superior to manual operation.

Course Contents:

Manufacturing excellence through relevant automation.
Sensors and actuators in automation and selection criteria.
Industrial control systems,PLC programming, use of Function Blocks, Multi-tasking, Human-Machine-Interface design, SCADA
Introduction to Robotics – Robot classifications, work cell, applications, robots for Indian Industry
Mechatronics system design
The course includes visit to few laboratories and hands-on experiments.
