Hey as The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur is a public research college located in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. It was declared to be Institute of National Importance by Government of India under IIT Act IITK Kangal Kanpur Genetic Algorithms Laboratory (KanGAL) is a research laboratory at Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur dedicated to pursuing research and industrial collaboration in the areas of genetic algorithms, fuzzy logic controllers, bioinformatics and neural networks. Fundamental research and application to engineering problems are primary focus of KanGAL. Facilities Parallel Compute Clusters A 36 node PC based cluster: Each node is a P4 3.0 GHz machine with the following specs: D865GBF Motherboard (800 MHz FSB), P-4 3.0 GHz, 90nm marchitecture, 1MB L2 Cache (Prescott Core), 1GB DDR2 RAM (533MHz FSB), 80GB 7200.7 RPM SATA Drive on each node. The cluster uses gigabit cards and wires to connect the nodes. The system runs on Redhat Linux. An 18 node PC based cluster: Each node is a dual processor P3 1.0 GHz machine with the following specs: 256MB RAM per node, 100Mbps network bandwidth. The system runs on WindowsXP. Desktops and Workstations There are about a dozen desktops with the configuration in the range: P4 (2.4 - 3.2) GHz, 512 MB - 1GB DDR2 RAM, 80 GB 7200.7 RPM SATA HD, 17-19 inch CRT Monitor (running Mandriva Linux). A Central File Server with 160x3 = 480 GB data storage space (running Mandriva Linux). Few old machines that work as routers, NIS servers (running FreeBSD) and test boxes. 2 PCs (P4 3.0 GHZ, 1GB RAM, 800MHz FSB) running WindowsXP.
