Patient Services

The mission of Team ILBS is "to serve as a torch-bearer model of health care in the country by amalgamating the skills and structure of academic universities, clinical and research acumen of the superspecialists and the managerial skills of the corporate world."

At ILBS we are committed to making available to our patients the best of services in the field of liver and biliary sciences - from diagnostic to therapeutic, from medical to surgical and from curative to palliative. Out Patient Department
Paid out-patient clinics are conducted in specialties like Hepatology, Hepatopancreato-biliary surgery, Pediatric Hepatology, Nephrology, Pulmonology, Oncology, Cardiology, Urology and Renal Transplant services. Special clinics in nutrition, neurology and radiation oncology have also been started. General OPD clinics are conducted twice a week for the general category of patients at a very nominal consultation fee of Rs. 20.


Inpatient Services
In patient (IPD) services which started with 20 beds has increased to 155 beds (40 general ward beds, 8 super economy beds, 22 semi private beds, 11 private rooms, 10 deluxe rooms, 2 VIP suites, 16 Liver coma ICU beds, 16 Surgical ICU Beds and 5 liver transplant ICU beds, 13 HDU beds, and 12 Emergency beds).
In 2013, additional beds for day care extension (8) and High Dependency Unit (13) have been started. The demand for inpatient services in the institute has risen unprecedentedly over the three years that the institute has been operational, with development of specialties of Nephrology, Urology and Renal transplantation.


Emergency Services
The Emergency Services are functional round the clock with well organized and dedicated manpower as well as adequate areas for triage, observation and admission for hepato Biliary and nonhepato biliary cases across all age groups. The non-hepato biliary cases are referred to appropriate health care facilities after initial assessment and stabilization. A dedicated emergency team comprising skilled emergency physicians, Hepatologists, Hepato- Biliary Surgeons and Critical Care specialists, is available round the clock.The ER is fully equipped with advance monitoring and resuscitation equipments. The emergency block consists of a triage hall having 4 beds and an emergency observation ward with 6 beds. START and Jump-Start Protocols are used for initial triaging of adult and pediatric patients respectively.



Ambulance Services
ILBS is well equipped for handling transportation of sick patients with its fleet of two basic and one advanced life support ambulances. The BLS ambulances are equipped with an oxygen cylinder, and emergency medications and supplies. The advanced "Liver Ambulance Service" , an ALS facility, is available for critically ill patients and patients on life support. This ambulance is fitted with the state of the art pre hospital medical equipment almost identical to the Hospital's ICU's.



Day Care Services
The Institute has day care facilities which provide services to patients for short stay procedures like diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, ERCP, biliary stenting, by anesthesiologists. The patients are then observed in the recovery room with full monitoring facilities, before discharge to home. Patients receive written instructions along with their reports before they leave. All endoscopy procedures are archived in electronic data management system.


Day Care Extension Ward
Day care extension ward caters to patients requiring short care services such as blood or body fluid transfusions, albumin infusion, ascitic tapping etc. The ward has eight beds.


Endoscopy Suites
The Institute has got eight endoscopy suites for undertaking various endoscopic procedures namely UGI endoscopy, colonoscopy, ERCP, capsule endoscopy, ESWL, diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic ultrasound, single and double balloon enteroscopy, bronchoscopy, Liver biopsy, Hepatic Venous Pressure Gradient and Trans Jugular Liver Biopsy (TJLB). Major endoscopic procedures are carried out by highly trained faculty assisted by skilled nurses and experienced technicians. Patient safety and comfort is paramount at ILBS. Each patient is received in a pre-procedure area by trained staff, where the patient is evaluated and his procedure related concerns addressed. Monitored sedation is provided for all endoscopy procedures anaesthesia Monitoring System and HD laparoscopic Monitor System.



High Dependency Unit
The institute has started a thirteen bedded HDU to cater for patients who require close monitoring but are not critical enough to require admission in ICU. This also helps in shifting the patients from the ICU. One of the beds is designated as an isolation bed for immunocompromised or immunodeficient patients.


Operating Suites
The institute has six fully equipped modular operating rooms (OR). Two ORs are dedicated to the liver and renal transplant surgery and four OR are for other surgical procedures like Laparoscopic cholecystectomy, Whipple’s procedure, hepatic resections and Endoscopic Urological Procedures. The ORs are equipped with latest equipments like Ultrasonic Surgical Aspiration System, Argon Beam Coagulator, Thromboelastograph, Cell Saver, Rapid Infusion System, Cardiac Output Monitor, Veno-Venous Bypass Pump, Fibro-Optic bronchoscope, Videobronchoscope, Video-choledochoscope, HD Surgical Light Camera System, central establishing and monitoring performance through measurement of Quality indicators, development and implementation of SOPs, hospital wide policies and protocols, and maintaining standardized formats of documentation across the organization. The department assists various other departments in preparation of Departmental Quality Manuals and collation and analysis of data on indicators.


Phlebotomy Services & Lab Reception
The phlebotomy area is a dedicated area for the collection of samples from patients attending OPD. The staff posted are trained phlebotomists who collect samples observing standard precautions. After collection, each vacutainer is bar-coded with the patient's details. The lab reception receives samples from the OPD as well as IPD samples from various wards and ICU's. On the reception counter, each sample is acknowledged onto the hospital information system (HIS) and then distributed into the respective labs.
