The Institute of Professional Studies was set up in May 2000 by the Executive Council of the University of Allahabad under Section 44 of the Act. Foundation of Professional Studies (IPS) is a University Institute under Statute 30 (I) (ii), read with area 3(Y) and segment 27 (L) of the University of Allahabad Act 2005. It was organized in the year 2000-2001 by the Executive Council of the University, on the proposal of the Academic Council, under Section 44 of the U.P. State Universities Act 1973.

It is an organization built up and kept up by the University. The fundamental target is to create linkages between the 'universe of learning' and the 'universe of work' through expert courses.

The Institute of Professional Studies (IPS) has been made to give short, medium and long haul proficient courses on a general and self-financing premise under the aegis of Centers committed to particular zones. By and by the Institute has Four focuses:

• Centre of Fashion Design & Technology
• Centre of Media Studies
