The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority is an authority (Government) of the Government of India.

Its purpose is to protect the interests of the policy holders of the insurance, to regulate the insurance industry, to regulate, promote and work on related and incidental matters.

Its headquarters are in Hyderabad.

It was established by the Act of Parliament by the IRDA Act, 1999.
