The Department of Space (DoS) is an Indian Government Department Responsible for Administration of the Indian Space Program.

It manages several agencies and institutes related to space exploration and space technologies.

The Department of Space Manages the Following Agencies And institutes

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) - The primary research and development arm of the DoS.

Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC),

Functions Are :

Implementing the directions and decisions of Space Commission
Providing for the design, development and launching of rockets and satellites

Providing satellite transponders for meeting the telecommunications, television broadcasting, security requirements and societal applications

Providing earth observation capabilities for mapping and monitoring of natural resources and Disaster Management Support

Providing space based systems for navigational needs and meteorological services.

Providing space systems for carrying out research and development in space sciences and planetary exploration

Providing space based products and services to the user community.

Providing assistance for furtherance of research in space science and technology, including building up adequate manpower through training and capacity building
International relations in peaceful uses of outer space
