Re: ISRO Navigation Satellite In Orbit
The Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System IRNSS is an indigenously developed Navigation Satellite System. The fully deployed IRNSS system consists of 3 satellites in GEO orbit and 4 satellites in GSO orbit. It is used to provide accurate real-time positioning and timing services over India and region extending to 1500 km around India. The full system comprises nine satellites, including two on the ground as stand-by. IRNSS would have seven satellites, out of which six are already placed in orbit. The constellation of seven satellites is expected to operate from June 2016 onwards Constellation size- Total satellites 7 Satellites in orbit 6 First launch 1 July 2013 Last launch 10 March 2016 4:01 PM IST Total launches 6 Orbital characteristics- Regime(s) High Earth Orbital height 36,000 km (22,000 mi)[1] Other details- Cost $212 million Some applications of IRNSS are: Integration with mobile phones Precise Timing Mapping and Geodetic data capture Terrestrial navigation aid for hikers and travellers Visual and voice navigation for drivers Terrestrial, Aerial and Marine Navigation Disaster Management Vehicle tracking and fleet management |
