Re: IUCAA Girawali Observatory

IUCAA Girawali Observatory is set up at an area which is around 80km Pune city, off Pune-Nasik Road and close to the chronicled Junnar town. Notwithstanding obliging the requirements of stargazers by and large, this observatory is interesting in putting aside a specific measure of time particularly to train and additionally observational proposition emerging from Indian Universities.

The observatory was formally introduced and the telescope committed to the stargazing group by Prof. Yash Pal on May thirteenth, 2006. After a period of execution and science check programs, the observatory opened for consistent perceptions in November 2006.

The ideal opportunity for perceptions is assigned by TAC from October to May in two proposition cycles each of four months span. The due date for accommodation of recommendations for the period October to January is July 15 and for the period February to May it is November 15.

Technical Specifications

Telescope

The fundamental 2m telescope at IGO is comprised of an essential mirror of 200 cm with f/3 and an auxiliary mirror of 62 cm with f/10. It has 1 direct and 4 side Cassegrain ports with an uncorrected field of perspective (direct) of 6 arcminute span

IFOSC

The IUCAA Faint Object Spectrograph and Camera (IFOSC) is the primary instrument accessible on the telescope's fundamental Cassegrain port. IFOSC utilizes an EEV 2K x 2K, diminished, back-enlightened CCD with 13.5 micrometer pixels. The spatial examining scale at the indicator is 44μm for each arcsecond giving a field of perspective of around 10.5 arcminutes as an afterthought.

PI-CCD

The Princeton Instruments CCD (PI-CCD) camera is mounted on one of the side ports. The camera utilizes a 1340x1300 pixel, diminished, back-enlightened E2V CCD.

An outline of the instrument parameters are given beneath:

Pixels: 1340 x 1300, 20μm square

Picture Scale: 97μm for each arcsecond (0.2 arcsecond for every pixel)

On chip binning: 2x2

Single Pixel Full Well: 300ke

Dynamic reach: 16 bits
