IUCAA Girawali Observatory is set up at an area which is around 80km Pune city, off Pune-Nasik Road and close to the chronicled Junnar town. Notwithstanding obliging the requirements of stargazers by and large, this observatory is interesting in putting aside a specific measure of time particularly to train and additionally observational proposition emerging from Indian Universities.

The observatory was formally introduced and the telescope committed to the stargazing group by Prof. Yash Pal on May thirteenth, 2006. After a period of execution and science check programs, the observatory opened for consistent perceptions in November 2006.

Technical Specifications

Telescope

The fundamental 2m telescope at IGO is comprised of an essential mirror of 200 cm with f/3 and an auxiliary mirror of 62 cm with f/10. It has 1 direct and 4 side Cassegrain ports with an uncorrected field of perspective (direct) of 6 arcminute span

IFOSC

The IUCAA Faint Object Spectrograph and Camera (IFOSC) is the primary instrument accessible on the telescope's fundamental Cassegrain port. IFOSC utilizes an EEV 2K x 2K, diminished, back-enlightened CCD with 13.5 micrometer pixels.
