The Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) is an autonomous institution established by UGC to promote nucleation and growth of active groups in astronomy and astrophysics in Indian universities. IUCAA is located in the University of Pune campus IUCAA Ph.D. Programme- To be admitted to IUCAA's PhD programme, you must first appear for either the following two tests: Jont Entrance Screening Test (JEST) IUCAA-NCRA Admission Test (INAT) The academic year at IUCAA begins in August every year. Eligibility: M.Sc. (in Physics/Electronics/Astronomy/Applied Mathematics) or B.E./B.Tech./ M.E./ M.Tech degree (any branch) by August are eligible to apply. In addition, talented final year B.Sc., 1st year M.Sc. (in Physics/ Electronics/Astronomy/Applied Mathematics) and 2nd/3rd year B.E./B.Tech (any branch) students can also apply to be PRE-SELECTED for research scholarship (to do Ph.D.) at IUCAA. They are looking for highly motivated students with consistently good academic record. Selection to research scholarship is through a written test and interviews. JEST – This is a national level written test jointly conducted by 22 participating institutes. JEST is usually held in February every year at various locations in the country. Students performing satisfactorily are offered admission to the Ph.D. Programme. INAT – The IUCAA-NCRA Admission Test (INAT) is conducted to select candidates for research scholarship (to join Ph.D. Programme) INAT is usually held in December every year.
