VIROLOGY DIVISION
The Division of Virology is located at Mukteswar, Nainital (Distt.) (Uttarakhand) at a distance of 169 km from the Institute Headquarters. The Division of Virology started as a serology section in 1931

Objectives:
Research on animal viruses and viral diseases of livestock and poultry
Preparation and production of antigens, diagnostic sera, vaccines, nucleic acid probe/s, etc
Epi-zootiological and pathological studies on viral diseases
Monitoring, surveillance and diagnosis of economically important diseases in the country

Activities;
Development of combined vaccines:
Goatpox and PPR.
Sheeppox and PPR.
Goatpox, Orf and PPR.

Molecular pathogenesis of PPR virus:
SLAM characterization
Cytokine profiling
Virus tropism

Detection and differentiation of sheeppox, goatpox and Orf by multiplex PCR.
Taxonomy capacity building of animal poxviruses.
Characterization of “Toll-like Receptors (TLRs)” in farm animals: Evolutionary lineages and application in diseases resistance.
Prevalence, characterization and development of diagnostics for animal rotaviruses.
