Kendriya Vidyalaya National Defence Academy has started functioning w.e.f. 29.6.1963. It is one of the 20 Regimental schools taken over by Central Schools Organization.

The nomenclature of the organization has since been modified as Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan. Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan is an autonomous body under the Dept. of Education, Ministry of HRD Govt of India.
