Re: LAUSD PHBAO schools list

PHBAO is an abbreviated form of the Predominantly Hispanic, Black, Asian, or other Non-Anglo.

In PHBAO schools the following programs apply:

Class-Size Reduction
• The average class-size norm is based on the school program category.

• The reduced average class size has been a part of the Integration program since 1978.

• The lowered class-size averages are applicable to all classes at Magnets, grades 1-6 at elementary schools and academic classes in grades 6-10 at secondary schools.

PHBAO Parent Conferences Program
• Provide two conferences between parents and teachers during the school year.

• Individual parent conferences are conducted on school sites and written records of parent participation are kept by schools.

• The conferences allow parents to monitor the academic and social development of students

• The first conference is scheduled during the first or second reporting period

• The second conference is scheduled during the third or fourth reporting period and before the last four weeks of the school year.

Priority Staffing Program (PSP)
It implements specific strategies to follow the Court Order's request for teacher placement at hard-to-staff schools.

Such strategies include: conducting special recruitment activities

School Readiness Language Development Program (SRLDP)

It offers educational opportunities for pre-kindergarten students to develop oral language and readiness skills that enhance self-esteem.

The program includes candidates who are identified as English Language Learners (ELLs) and Standard English Language Learners (SELLs).

SRLDP also prepares students to be successful throughout school experiences.

All children must be four-years old by the year of enrollment.

SRLDP is administered by the Early Childhood Education Division.

Medical-Counseling, Organizing and Recruiting (Med-COR) Program

It offers opportunities for high school candidates enrolled in the Medical Magnets to become acquainted with the various health careers and educational prerequisites.

The Med-COR program is co-sponsored by the University of Southern California (USC) Keck School of Medicine.
