The Library of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore, was built up in 1911 and it is one of the initial three offices began in the Institute. It is viewed as one of the best investigative and specialized libraries in India. Aside from the Main Library it has departmental libraries too. The Library moved into the present premises in January 1965, worked out of gifts gave by University Grants Commission (UGC), in recognition of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of the Institute in 1959. In 1995 the library was renamed as "JRD Tata Memorial Library".
