Eligibility Qualifications for MBTA Transit and Municipal Police Officers The primary qualifications for candidates in Massachusetts civil service jurisdictions are defined in Massachusetts General Law Chapter 31, Section 58: Candidates must have a high school degree or equivalent certified About the Examination : the Examination has Following Section The Written Ability Test (WAT) — Evaluates cognitive abilities that have been identified as essential to performing a police officer’s responsibilities, including verbal expression, verbal comprehension, problem sensitivity, deductive reasoning, inductive reasoning, and information ordering. The Work Styles Questionnaire (WSQ) — Assesses certain motivational, value-related, and attitudinal characteristics that can help police officers succeed. The Life Experience Survey (LES) — Consists of a series of multiple-choice questions related to candidates’ past history and experience that are relevant to the duties of a civil servant. |
