The Qualifying Examination for Part Time Ph. D Registration in Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli is as follows:

Qualifying Examination is mandatory for those having only PG Degree.

One with M Phil/JRF/GATE/SLET/NET/M.E./M. Tech qualifications is exempted from Qualifying Examination.

A pass in the Qualifying Examination is valid for 1 year.

One who has passed the Qualifying Exams and who has M. Phil /JRF/ GATE/ SLET NET/M.E./M. Tech qualifications can apply for Ph. D Registration only in January and July of every Calendar Year with all necessary documents and fees.

Application for Qualifying Exam and Ph. D Registration are separate.

One appearing for Qualifying Exam should submit the Ph. D Registration form only after declaration of result as qualified.

One is permitted to register their Ph. D programme under Guides who is working in the Manonmaniam Sundaranar University Departments /Colleges affiliated to Manonmaniam Sundaranar University.

One Outside Tamilnadu and Pondicherry are eligible to apply only for Full Time only.

Minimum Qualifications – Pass in Master Degree with 55% marks for General and OBC Category, 50% for SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently abled or equivalent grade at the Post-graduate level as prescribed by the UGC norms.

One who has passed Master Degree through Open University system is not eligible, however, one who has secured the Master Degree under (11+1)/(10+2)+3+2 pattern of courses of study is eligible.

Selection Process
a) Entrance Test: One, seeking admission for Full-Time, Part-Time will be admitted through a common entrance test for each discipline, and followed by an interview.
Both the entrance test and the interview shall be organized by the University Research Section in the University premises.
The result of the entrance test and interview are valid for one year only.

b) The written exam is in the forenoon session and interview conducted in the afternoon session.

c) The Interview will be conducted by forming different interview committees following the exam and marks allotted for the interview is a maximum of 50.

d) At the time of interview, one is expected to discuss the research interest/area.

e) One with M.Phil Degree from an approved University, irrespective of discipline allied discipline, is exempted from appearing for the Entrance Exam to the admission for Ph. D programme.
UGC NET/UGC/CSIR (JRF) exams/SLET/GATE qualified candidates and Teacher fellowship holders are also exempted from the Entrance Test and Interview. One with M.E./M. Tech Degree Qualification is also exempted from Entrance Exam.

f) Separate Application forms are submitted by one for Entrance Exam and Ph. D Registration.
(a) Entrance Exam is conducted in the subjects of Master Degree obtained by one.
(b) Pass % in the entrance exam & Interview is:

BC, MBC/DNC, SC/ST 50%
